( & greater self-sufficiency for Deep Spring Estate)

Ever since arriving on this our own little piece of heaven, our Estate has always been very concerned about our own carbon footprint and what we can do about minimising it. Below is a list of activities, implemented or soon to be implemented at our Estate to lighten our carbon footprint. Hopefully there are some usefull tips in it for you as well.

• Advertise only via Internet (smaller paper trail).
• Email 95% of mail (smaller paper trail).
• No newspapers, see Internet & TV for news (smaller paper trail).
• Recycle paper/carton waste for lighting fires in heaters.
• Recycle plastic bottles, cans, and glass.
• Recycle kitchen waste into compost & via animals.
• Contribution to non-recyclable waste is brought back to lower than 50%, total yearly output of non-recyclable waste is approx 4 cubic meters, business & residential.
• Running solar hot water for Jacuzzi & Saltwater pool.
• Burn home grown, regrown (coppicing) firewood for winter heating i.p.o electrical heating or gas heating.
• Run carpool on gas & diesel.
• Repair, not replace.
• Planted 1000’s of native trees, scrubs & grasses.
• Recycling grey water, (all our washing machines, showers & hand basins) saving at least 85%. Greywater collected & biologically filtered used for toilet flushing & garden watering.
• Run only low energy light bulbs, saving approx 80%.
• Purchase locally grown produce.
• Heavily insulated R3.5 ceiling & walls to keep in warmth in winter & coolness in summer. Save on cooling & heating.
• Installed oversized gutters for catching downpour rainwater supply into in-ground tanks. Very low cost & cool way of storing rainwater.
• Grow organic food on Estate.
• Created larger eaves keeping sun out in summer with shade cloth & shade sails, letting sun in in winter.
• Using our own filtered rainwater, collected from roof surfaces. No purchase of wasteful bottled water.
• Purchase only “single wrapped” products. No double wrapping. Save on packaging waste.

We’ll lighten your Carbon footprint.

To compensate for the energy it takes to get to Deep Spring Estate for a well-deserved rest. We propose to plant or name a tree or shrub for you on our 20-acre property.  Better still, if you have a garden, we will supply you with a free tree or shrub from our nursery to take home, after your stay here, to plant in your garden.

We thought spending our marketing $$ on our customers would be a much better idea, so we’re proud to be introducing our credit building system. Send a work pal, friend, family or foe & get a 5% credit on your card, to be used on your next visit to Deep Spring Estate. All we need is a confirmation on arrival from the person(s) send by you & you will collect 5% of their spending at Deep Spring Estate as a credit on your E-Loyalty card. A Monthly E-loyalty card statement update will be send to you by e-mail. As an example: Our largest package on offer at the moment is “five night Lilly Pilly, priced at $2576 for 2. Your 5% would cover a healthy $129 credit on your personal E-loyalty card statement. Nearly covering a mud wrap with mud bath.
